Daniel, Lions & Scooby Doo

This message explores the familiar story of Daniel and the lion’s den to reveal how extraordinary faith is often built through ordinary daily disciplines. Daniel had developed a remarkable reputation throughout decades of service—he was known as faithful, responsible, and completely trustworthy. When others conspired against him and convinced King Darius to outlaw prayer to anyone except the king, Daniel didn’t suddenly develop courageous faith because a crisis arrived. He simply continued doing what he had always done: he went home, prayed, thanked God, and asked for His help. Even when his faithfulness resulted in being thrown into a terrifying den of lions, Daniel trusted the God he had learned to trust every day.

This message challenges us to recognize that faith in the lion’s den is built through faith in the everyday. Daniel’s extraordinary character and trust in God were the result of decades of ordinary decisions, especially his consistent practice of prayer. Instead of waiting until circumstances become overwhelming to turn to God, we can develop our own “trust muscles” by bringing everything to Him—thanking Him for what is good and asking for His help and wisdom in every situation. Ultimately, this message reminds us that when we pray every day through every circumstance, God can use the seemingly ordinary discipline of prayer to build extraordinary faith over time.
