Through Marriage
Marriage has a unique way of shaping us. It brings companionship, joy, and deep connection—but it also exposes our selfishness, wounds, unmet expectations, and fears. Whether your marriage feels strong, strained, or somewhere in between, marriage is one of the primary places God forms our character and faith.
Following Jesus in marriage doesn’t mean perfection or ease. It means learning to love sacrificially, forgive honestly, communicate truthfully, and trust God in the everyday realities of life together. This page is here to help you reflect, discern where growth is needed, and take meaningful next steps toward health and faithfulness.

Marriage Self-Reflection
Marriage shapes us over time—often in subtle ways. This reflection can help you notice where God may be forming you, or where something may be off.
Signs of Healthy Formation
- Grace grows even in moments of tension or disagreement
- Communication becomes more honest, patient, and respectful
- Conflict leads to understanding rather than withdrawal or contempt
- Forgiveness is practiced, not avoided
- Commitment remains steady through changing seasons
Signs Something Is Off
- Conflict feels unsafe or consistently unresolved
- Control, withdrawal, or resentment replace vulnerability
- Your sense of worth rises and falls with your spouse’s approval
- Comparison with other marriages breeds dissatisfaction or shame
- Bitterness lingers without being addressed
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
— ECCLESIASTES 4:9-12
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
— EPHESIANS 5:25
With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
— EPHESIANS 4:2-3
Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
— COLOSSIANS 3:13-14
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
— 1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-7
Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
— 1 PETER 3:7
So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.
— MATTHEW 19:6
