Pride & Self-Exaltation
Pride shows up when we elevate ourselves above others — in thoughts, words, or actions — and measure worth by ability, reputation, or image. You may find yourself constantly comparing, defending your choices, or needing to be right, admired, or in control. This drive to protect your status or prove your value can create distance in relationships, strain your peace, and keep you from experiencing authentic connection with others.
Spiritually, pride pushes your heart away from the humility Jesus models and invites us into. When self-exaltation becomes a default posture, you may rely on your own strength or approval rather than on God’s grace and truth. But the good news of the gospel says that Jesus, who humbled Himself and lived with servant-heart love, meets us right where we are and reshapes our identity from the inside out. In Him, humility isn’t weakness — it becomes a doorway to deeper freedom, peace, and joyful connection with God and others.

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
— PROVERBS 16:18
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
— JAMES 4:6
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
— LUKE 18:14
