OUTCOMES OF FOLLOWING JESUS

Patience

Biblical patience is not passive resignation or emotional suppression. It is a steady strength that allows us to endure difficulty, respond with grace, and trust God’s timing even when answers feel delayed or circumstances remain unresolved.

As an outcome of following Jesus, patience grows as the Spirit reshapes how we respond to pressure, frustration, and waiting. Over time, patience becomes less about controlling outcomes and more about trusting God to work faithfully in and through every season.

Self-Reflections

Use the reflections below not to judge yourself, but to notice what patterns may be shaping your patience.

Signs of Healthy Formation

  • Responding thoughtfully rather than reactively under pressure
  • Remaining steady when progress feels slow or unclear
  • Enduring difficulty without losing hope or perspective

Signs Something Is Off

  • Frustration quickly turns into irritation or anger
  • Waiting feels threatening or intolerable
  • Emotional suppression or avoidance replaces faithful endurance

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

— JAMES 1:2-4

Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.

— ROMANS 5:3-4

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.

— COLOSSIANS 3:12

For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.

— HEBREWS 10:36

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

— PSALM 37:7

SHAPING PATIENCE

What Often Undermines Patience

When patience weakens, it often reveals resistance to waiting or discomfort. Patience erodes when urgency, control, or frustration replace trust in God’s timing. Common disruptors include:
