Who Is Jesus?
Jesus is more than a teacher or historical figure. He claimed to be God who came near—offering forgiveness, hope, and new life to those who trust Him.
Most people don’t wake up thinking, “I need saving.”
They wake up thinking about stress, relationships, guilt, purpose, regret, or the sense that something isn’t quite right. The question of why you need Jesus isn’t about religion—it’s about what’s broken, what’s missing, and whether real hope is possible.
The Bible lays out a clear path for understanding this, often called the Roman Road—a simple way of explaining why Jesus matters and what He offers.
1. Something in Us—and in the World—is Broken
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
No one lives up to the life they were created to live. We all fall short—through harmful choices, misplaced trust, selfishness, pride, or patterns we can’t seem to break. Sin isn’t just about bad behavior; it’s about broken relationship—with God, others, and even ourselves.
You don’t have to look far to see it. We feel it in guilt, shame, emptiness, and the sense that we’re carrying more than we were meant to. Deep down, we know something isn’t the way it should be.
2. Sin Has Real Consequences
“For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23a)
Sin doesn’t just affect the moment—it leads somewhere. Over time, it creates separation from God, damage in relationships, and spiritual death. Left unaddressed, it keeps us stuck and disconnected from the life God intended.
This isn’t about fear or punishment—it’s about reality. Brokenness, when ignored, always costs us more than we expect.
3. God Didn’t Leave Us There
“…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23b)
Here’s the turning point: God didn’t wait for us to fix ourselves.
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
Jesus came to do what we couldn’t. Through His death on the cross, He took the weight of sin and separation on Himself. Through His resurrection, He opened the door to forgiveness, restoration, and new life.
Grace is a gift—not something we earn, deserve, or achieve.
4. Salvation Is Received Through Trust, Not Effort
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
Following Jesus doesn’t begin with cleaning up your life—it begins with trusting Him. Salvation is about surrender, not self-improvement. It’s a decision to stop relying on yourself and place your trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior.
This doesn’t mean you’ll have everything figured out. It means you’re choosing a new direction.
5. Everyone Is Invited
“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)
No one is excluded. No past is too broken. No doubt is too big. Jesus invites everyone to come to Him—to be forgiven, made new, and begin a restored relationship with God.
You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be honest.
What This Means for You
Needing Jesus doesn’t mean you’ve failed—it means you’re human. Jesus meets us not at our best, but at our most honest. He offers forgiveness where there’s guilt, peace where there’s anxiety, purpose where there’s confusion, and new life where things feel stuck or broken.
If your heart is stirring, that may be God inviting you to take a next step.
