Money as an Idol
Money is a normal part of life — it pays bills, provides for needs, and makes daily living possible. But when our hearts begin to look to money for security, identity, or worth, it can quietly become an idol. Instead of trusting God’s provision and goodness, we find ourselves anxious, striving, or comparing our resources to others. In these ways, money becomes more than a tool — it becomes a source of trust we weren’t meant to carry alone.
Spiritually, when money becomes an idol it shapes how we think, speak, and act. It can block generosity, fuel fear instead of faith, and make us feel like we must control our future through wealth. But God offers a better way: a heart rooted in Him instead of in numbers. He invites us to reframe our trust and find peace not in power or provision, but in His faithful presence.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
— MATTHEW 6:19–21
But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
— 1 TIMOTHY 6:9–10
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
— HEBREWS 13:5
