Moral Relativism
Moral relativism is the belief that truth shifts depending on personal preference, culture, or circumstance instead of being grounded in unchanging reality. You might find yourself thinking that what’s “right” depends on the situation, that different standards are equally valid, or that truth is something you create rather than discover. While this perspective can feel tolerant or open-minded, it often leaves people unsure of what to hold onto when life gets hard or when conflicting values collide.
Spiritually, moral relativism can pull your heart away from the firm foundation Jesus offers — a truth that stands even when everything around you seems uncertain. When we navigate life by shifting standards instead of God’s faithful character, our decisions can become unanchored and our sense of purpose diluted. But the good news of the gospel invites you into a way of living that isn’t rigid for the sake of rules, but rooted in the person of Jesus — who is described as the way, the truth, and the life. In Him, confidence in God’s truth becomes a source of peace, direction, and compassion for others.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
— ISAIAH 5:20
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
— PROVERBS 14:12
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
— ROMANS 1:25

At Sonrise Church in Santee, CA, we understand how confusing it can be when truth feels flexible and personal opinion seems to define what’s right or wrong. In East County San Diego, many people wrestle with conflicting values, shifting cultural messages, and the pressure to adapt moral standards to fit their own comfort or identity. Sonrise Church offers compassionate teaching and community rooted in Scripture to help you explore what it looks like to ground your life in God’s faithful character while still loving others well.
In Santee, El Cajon, La Mesa, and Lakeside, our church family gathers to learn how biblical truth isn’t an abstract list of rules, but a living reality rooted in Jesus — who brings clarity, purpose, and compassion. Jesus doesn’t invite you into rigid judgment, but into a life shaped by grace, wisdom, and unwavering love. If you’re longing for confidence in what’s true and meaningful, Sonrise Church in East County San Diego is a place to take your next steps with others on the same journey of faith.
