SIN

Sins of the Heart

The heart is the engine of spiritual life—the seat of desire, imagination, motivation, and decision. Sins of the heart are not just outward actions; they are inner longings, comparisons, fears, and attachments that shape how we see God, ourselves, and others. Patterns like bitterness, envy, jealousy, lust, and uncontrolled desires often begin long before behavior shows up on the outside. They grow quietly, influence choices, and form the soul in ways that can pull trust away from God and toward lesser things.

Jesus knows the heart better than we do, and He invites us into deep healing—not just surface behavior change. Freedom begins when we honestly name what’s inside, repent, and turn toward God’s design for our lives. Through Scripture, prayer, and the Spirit’s work, our desires are reshaped and our motives realigned. As we pursue Jesus day by day, the heart is renewed, patterns of sin are loosened, and life increasingly reflects the character of Christ. You are invited to take your next faithful steps with Jesus, and Sonrise Church is here to walk with you as you enter into deeper formation, freedom, and transformation.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

— Matthew 5:8

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

— Proverbs 4:23

But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

— James 1:14–15
