OUTCOMES OF FOLLOWING JESUS

Peace

Biblical peace is not dependent on stable circumstances or emotional calm. It is rooted in reconciliation with God and expressed as a settled confidence that He is present, sovereign, and at work — even when life feels uncertain or unresolved.

As an outcome of following Jesus, peace grows as the Spirit reshapes where we place our trust. Over time, peace becomes less about controlling outcomes and more about resting in God’s faithfulness, allowing His peace to rule our hearts and guide our relationships.

Self-Reflections

Use the reflections below not to judge yourself, but to notice what patterns may be shaping your peace.

Signs of Healthy Formation

  • A steady confidence in God even when circumstances are unsettled
  • Reduced anxiety when outcomes are uncertain
  • A growing ability to respond calmly in moments of tension or conflict

Signs Something Is Off

  • Anxiety or worry begins to dominate your thoughts
  • Control feels more secure than trust
  • Emotional numbness or avoidance replaces genuine reconciliation

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

— PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

— JOHN 14:27

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

— ROMANS 5:1

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

— COLOSSIANS 3:15

And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

— JAMES 3:18
