FOLLOW JESUS

Through Housing

Housing plays a significant role in everyday life. Whether you’re renting, owning, searching, downsizing, or facing uncertainty, where and how you live shapes your sense of stability, safety, and peace. Housing challenges can create stress, fear, and feelings of loss—or become places of gratitude and contentment.

Following Jesus in housing doesn’t mean ignoring practical realities or pretending uncertainty doesn’t matter. It means learning to trust God with our need for shelter, stability, and provision, while practicing contentment, generosity, and hospitality in every season. This page is here to help you reflect on how housing is shaping you—and how God may be forming faith and peace through it.

Housing Self-Reflection

Housing shapes our hearts over time. This reflection can help you notice where trust is growing—or where something may be off.

Signs of Healthy Formation
  • Gratitude grows for the shelter God has provided
  • Contentment increases regardless of living situation
  • Decisions are shaped by wisdom rather than fear or pressure
  • Hospitality and generosity remain possible in any season
  • Trust in God’s provision deepens over time
Signs Something Is Off
  • Anxiety or fear dominates housing decisions
  • Your sense of security is tied primarily to living conditions
  • Comparison with others fuels dissatisfaction or envy
  • Control replaces trust in God’s provision
  • Uncertainty leads to despair or withdrawal

Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

— PSALM 127:1

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

— MATTHEW 6:31-33

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

— HEBREWS 13:5

By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

— PROVERBS 24:3-4

Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

— LUKE 12:15

God settles the solitary in a home; he leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

— PSALM 68:6
