OUTCOMES OF FOLLOWING JESUS

Faithfulness

Faithfulness isn’t tested when life is easy—it’s revealed over time, especially when trust feels costly or obedience feels slow. Many people sincerely want to follow Jesus, yet struggle to remain steady when circumstances change, prayers feel unanswered, or commitment becomes inconvenient. In those moments, faithfulness is exposed not as a feeling or a phase, but as something deeper that has—or hasn’t—been formed within us.

Biblical faithfulness is not perfection, intensity, or personality. It is a Spirit-formed steadiness—a settled trust in God that expresses itself through ongoing obedience, integrity, and perseverance. Faithfulness means continuing to follow Jesus when feelings fluctuate, when growth seems slow, and when obedience feels costly. It is less about dramatic moments and more about daily allegiance—choosing again and again to trust God’s character and keep walking in His ways. True faithfulness grows as we learn that God Himself is faithful; our consistency is always a response to His.

Self-Reflections

Use the reflections below not to judge yourself, but to notice what patterns may be shaping you.

Signs of Healthy Formation

  • Continuing to trust God even when outcomes are uncertain
  • Keeping commitments even when no one is watching
  • Remaining rooted in truth rather than driven by changing emotions

Signs Something Is Off

  • Disengaging when following Jesus feels difficult
  • Obedience becomes conditional on comfort or clarity
  • External compliance replaces inward trust and perseverance

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

— LAMENTATIONS 3:22-23

One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.

— LUKE 16:10

Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.
