The Other Side of Sent | John 9:1-8

This message focuses on John 9, where Jesus heals a man blind from birth in order to reveal God’s glory. The disciples assumed his condition was punishment for sin, but Jesus corrected them, showing that brokenness can be the very place where God’s works are displayed. This message highlights the man’s remarkable faith: after years of being marginalized, shamed, and pitied, he obeyed Jesus’ command to go wash in the pool—without explanation, without assistance, and without knowing the outcome. His obedience, though difficult and humbling, led to transformation, teaching us that faith often grows only on the other side of obedience.

The application presses into how we tend to demand proof before acting in faith, wanting God to show results before we take a step. Yet this blind man trusted and moved first, and only then did he see. Similarly, we are called to obey God even when uncertain—whether forgiving someone, serving sacrificially, giving generously, or releasing bitterness—trusting that God will grow our faith in the process. Obedience doesn’t make life easier, but it does make it meaningful, shaping our character and putting God’s glory on display. The call is clear: don’t wait for the outcome before stepping forward; take the walk of faith and watch God meet you there.
